Ressurrection

With all the rage about ressurrections, this is how the only ressurrection so far in my e-mail campaign was told.

It takes place in Kustria, Safelster. The character living through this is Kaz (Hi, Andy!), a Handran investigator and troubleshooter, with orlanthi background. The dead girl is a Delelan trader, a former vingan. Both of them fell in love four days before, but she was kidnapped, and through another player's inaction, drowned in wine. When they recovered her body, Kaz sought desperately a way to bring her back, but the only people who claimed the power to do it were a powerful Lunar party, come this far to hunt the same sorceror the players are after. Kaz has sold his body and soul to the Lunars to bring her back. Other players who appear briefly are Alioth, a mercenary from Sentanos and Sir Quinto Nekanda, a young knight from Tiskos (and unwittingly responsible of Hiarne's death). Serena Farseer is a trader (how can she ressurrect people?), and chief of the group. Creides is the magic specialist.

We began a year ago and we have played nine days of adventuring time so far, but I am very satisfied with the experience, and all the players are wonderful.

Creides, the brown man, teaches you the words you are expected to use, your movements, and even what you should think.

"You have to think about her, alive. And to project your yearning of her. With a bit of luck, Serena will be able to find her with that reference. Once you find her, it will be your part to convince her to come back with you. We don't expect too many problems with that. Young people are always eager to return. Then Serena will bargain with Issaries' shadow, hopefully without obstacle."

You find it hard to concentrate in all the ritual Creides tries to make you memorize. However you have no trouble thinking about Hiarne.

You see Alioth just an instant, when you change the tent you are in, but he seems dazed, speaking funny, and taking five seconds to recognize you. To your quizzical look, he says that he has hit his head, and he is a bit confused.

You are led to Serena's tent, with Hiarne, dressed in white, lying in the center. Serena and Creides stand at two opposite positions, dressed in red and white. They dress you in a red woolen tunic, and place you at the feet of the corpse.

She looks like if she was to breathe again at any moment, all the horrible signs of wine and drowning disappeared, and you let yourself sigh. Serena is standing in front of you, and you feel the presence of Creides at your back.

Soon aromatic smoke begins to issue from the braziers, and you listen to Serena begin to talk in an unknown tongue. The monotonous speech and something in the smoke make you drowsy, and when you shake your head to clear it, Creides says "don't fight it, let it overcome you."

Suddenly you find yourself wide awake, standing in an endless gray plain. You hear Creides grumbling "Monotheists. Gray and bleak. Typical. You, call her."

You turn, but Creides is not there. You are alone in the plain. Not knowing better, you shout Hiarne's name, trying to picture her in your mind's eye, and finding it difficult.

Creides disembodied voice "Make sure it is her before you touch her. Some nasty things could answer that call."

Soon a figure approaches. At times it (or her?) resembles Hiarne, sometimes other women you have met. Unlike you, it has a shadow following it. You doubt, and you trace in the air the runes of Death and Wind. The form recoils, and Creides says some words in an unknown tongue, and a bright light surrounds the form, showing it to be horned and hooved. It disappears quickly.

With a heavy heart you watch a second figure, who had arrived while the light disappeared. It looks as a slightly younger Hiarne, armed and tattooed, perhaps a sister. She stares at you, hesitant. Creides says "Come on girl, remember."

The young Hiarne gets close, and looks at you dreamily. You call to her with all your strength, pouring all you have on her.

She steps closer, when a shadow envelops her, and a smiling man appears besides her. You don't concentrate on him, keeping all your attention in Hiarne. The voice of Serena resounds around, and a whispering voice answers.

After a long exchange, while you kept your gazes locked, the smiling man (bald or red haired?) disappears, and Hiarne smiles. Creides appears briefly pointing the way, and you guide her to an outline that looks like her.

The silence hits you like a hammer, blowing you unconscious.

When you come back into your senses, you see Creides and Serena around Hiarne. Standing feebly, you get close to her. You see her eyes opening, without looking.

A bit later, with Hiarne dressed, you notice Quinto standing on the back.
