The god thing...

A main point of contention in the latest (and many previous) debates about the nature of Gloranthan deities seem to the directionality of myth. I.e. did god(s) and the mythic world create and shape men, or did men create and shape god(s) and the mythic world?

A big problem with Richard's theory that men create deities (and their physical manifestation) by their belief is that just about every single Gloranthan culture claim the other way round: that god(s) created the world. Even the atheist Brithini acknowledge the Invisible God as creator of the world. And you can heroquest into the Otherworld and see that god(s) actually did predate humans and thus worship.

The whole belief/disbelief thing is awkward as well, since beliefs and rituals hold power, even if you don't share them. This is the case both in our world and in Glorantha.

Finally, bear in mind that science and religion are
_not_ necessarily contradictory. I can't be the only
one who have seen that the biblical creation myths and the Big Bang theory tell the same story in different words?
