Illumination in Glorantha is apparently kind of similar to Zen enlightenment in the real world. The illuminate transcends cultural conditioning and has a personal experience of the divine world. I could go on about this for hours, and have previously on the digest.

In rules terms, illuminates are often immune to cult spirits of reprisal and cannot be detected as chaotic by sense chaos (if they are chaotic).

The down side is that you _know_ that in the whole vast horrifying universe, they're all on their own. Saying or thinking that is one thing. Living it as a personal experience is another. Many of them who have not been trained to deal with it go bonkers, and it's possible to argue that all of them are quite mad by any non-illuminated standard of rationality.

>ie do they necessarily think Chaos is OK

Many of them seem to accept that chaos is a necessery force in the world, but that doesn't mean they all think that Broo are realy neat. There are such things as illuminated chaos fighters.
