Maybe you don't know but AD&D has recently been published on CD-ROM.
It has all the rules, character generation system, but I have yet to
see it on my computer screen (info available at
http://www.tsr.com/CR2/Home.html)
I have had this idea of putting a pen and paper RPG on a CD-ROM for a
long time. Imagine the advantages of a HW digital edition:
- - a powerful search engine
- - print any part you need to give to the players
- - upgradable rules and data with software patches
- - character (or clan) generation systems
- - combat resolution system where you click on a button instead of
throwing dices, making combat management easier for the GM. Imagine
having a small window for each monster you want, with stats etc.
- - publishing campaign on CD-ROM too, with pictures or even small
animations, ready to print maps (with a blank version for the PCs),
- - hyperlinking rules and background data
- - open architecture so that adventures made by fans could be
plugged-in the main program
- - sound effects like rain or thunder or broo roaring for the atmosphere
- - mapping software
- - a kind of robot portrait software to put a face on your brand new
NPCs or PCs
- - ready to print handouts
- - eternal ( you dont want to know how is my Big Rubble box now ...)
- - maybe a play by email or chat service
I am sure that if HW was going to have a CD-ROM version, a lot of us
were going to buy it. It wouldn't cost as much as the printed version
to produce (1$ or 2$ of plastic by CD) and it would add a new twist
wich could attract new players. What do you think ?
