Like I said, they were abolished _until_ GoG came out. Didn't the boxed set have conversion rules which said this quite explictly? And only for some cults. This was a largely sensible change, but it's hardly "not changing one bit". And of course, the status itself was redefined. Yadda-yadda, etc, etc.
