As much as I agree with Jaimie's main point (that the population demographic in G is the same basically as the Real World(tm) Middle Ages; that the magic (positive) and lethality (negative)effects cancel out) I *have* to dispute this.
There is no way herbal remedies (say 20% effective) plus the placebo effect (say 10-20% effective) equal heal 6 (100% reattach your arm). That's my point.
In the real world healing remedies are *partially* effective, but the world is much less lethal. In Glorantha healing is real, magic is real, the Gods are real (and grant serious power to their worshippers), but then again, in Glorantha the boogeyman is real too - and will kick your butt and eat you (or worse).

Well, we all have seen how older people - the really really old ones, I mean, start to look a little "transparent". A visible analogue of a spiritual effect.

100% agree. The principal is to keep RL and G in parallel except where necessary. For example, I've never seen any works referring to them, but I bet there are all the typical earthly subfauna - rabbits, squirrels, worms, gophers, etc. - in Glorantha, but they never get discussed because they fall "under the radar" so to speak.
