If the problem is that orlanthi horses are too small to ride this seems like a great reason to use them to pull chariots.

I've seen a suggestion that the reason that chariots were used for so long was that they function as crew served weapons. As a rule, crew served weapons tend to perform in battle conditions much better than a bunch of individuals would. So it is suggested that the reason why they were not replaced by cavalry earlier then they were was that it took a long time to figure out how to train cavalry that would fight effectively.

Roger McCarthy's Gloranthan demographics was a very interesting approach to Glorantha. I much prefer it to what seems to be the the standard approach: quoting obscure pieces pulled from of Gregs wastebasket out of context, then flaming anyone who dares to disagrees with you. Or even better, making it up and geting upset at anyone who suggests that not everyone is convinced of the validity of your allegory linking Glorantha and 20th century political movements.

But the "Book of the Fathers" is great.
