Alex thinks the "wear no armour on left leg" geas is silly=2E This misses a point about fighting with spears=2E If you're right-handed (and Sun Domer culture being as proscriptive as it is you WILL be right-handed) your left leg will be the one nearest the enemy in combat=2E Swiss pikemen in the late-medieval/early-renaissance period often wore plate armour on their left leg only=2E

Presumably there is some mythic justification - Yelmalio having bits of his armour pulled off in some Godtime fight?

Actually I wonder if there isn't a remedial class in every Sun Domer barracks to beat the cack-handedness out of any recruit who tries to face the wrong way during drill=2E Such unfortunates would doubtless be looked on with suspicion as well as derision=2E
