Harpoon

Funny thing about Harpoon, it is at the north end of Sun County. Any sea monster gets to ravage the banks all through the county before it gets near the weapon. Could it be that it is actually intended for use against things that come from Pavis rather than from the sea?

Like maybe originally it was to catch any cradles that got by the Great Basher. It would also be useful for threatening EWF or GodLearner ships that tried to evade custom duties on the way out of Pavis. More recently it would be useful for discouraging raiding trolls from the Rubble from using the river, they have to march overland making them more vulnerable to counter-attack.

If Sun County did throw off the EWF yoke before Pavis, then Harpoon might have been built to defend the county against any monsters that the EWF might have sent in retribution.

Is the current Pavis road the same one that existed historically? Or was the original road along the river bank?
If the old road followed the river, then Harpoon may have once covered both the river and the road from the one site.
