Jane complains

Jane Williams has a sudden attack of grognardism
>Future Glorantha, with or without Hero Wars,
>can manage without me if it's going to be that restrictive and that
>different from
>what's gone before.

Rest assured that no great pronouncements have been made. Certainly, it has become Orlanth the Warrior rather than Orlanth Adventurous, but this probably has something to do with the cult no longer being constructed for PC convenience, or reflects the fact that in Prax, most initiates might be wandering adventurers, but in Sartar, the vast majority are tribal warriors who spend very little of their time 'adventuring'.

>Then we have the Glorantha Jeff describes, where OA is now known as OW (and
>has lost his storm powers), and all these women have suddenly become
>>impossible.

Actually, I thought OA lost most of his Storm Powers with GOG, when all the Storm Voices became members of Orlanth Thunderous.

And no, these women certainly have not become impossible in general, but the details are yet to be worked out (which is not really a change from the maddening lack of detail on Vinga in general). Storm Voices are male, but Thunderous magic is not exclusively male anywhere I can see (in fact, Orlanth Thunderous and Vinga are explicitly noted as compatible). I just think nobody thought about it in this much detail before this argument, so some unsatisfactory areas may have slipped through (especially given that the Hero Wars draft Jeff may or may not have working on has not been yet Gregged (give that verb yet another meaning)).

One of the infuriating and worthwhile things about Gloranthan fandom is the incredibly high standards of consistency and accuracy demanded in products. Its wonderful when it creates magazines like TOTRM, of fabulous quality for a fanzine, and infuriating when it results in flame wars over the details of products that still a long way from the final form.

And for what its worth, I find that overall the changes to Glorantha have been great lately. There may have been occasional things I didn't like, but compared to (for example) how much more fascinating and enjoyable I find Orlanthi culture after the revelations of the story of Vingkot, the story of Lokamayadon, Harmast, et al, the myths of Heort (and his self-reliant initial denial of Orlanth) - no contest. The outpourings of creativity into Orlanthi culture at the moment is just fantastic, so I can live with a little confusion and uncertainty until the dust settles, and even bid adieu to a few RQ2 era icons, knowing that what we have now is shaping up to be great.

I'm even grudgingly starting to like those Orlanthi bastards now, a serious departure from my last few years of propounding the Lunar/Pelorian/Pelandan world view.

        Cheers

                David
