A new wrinkle on "map graphics"?

Well, I suppose it has to be a _digraph_ in case of one-way streets, no-exit signs, and steep hills. ;-)

I'm not sure how gripped I am by this idea -- it sounds a little like all the complexity of a map, and none of the flavour. And you still need the building descriptions, surely? But I'm intruiged, nevertheless, as it may well be that this is a lot easier to _produce_ than an actual map.

David, can you give a more precise reference, or better yet, given the availability of way-back-when DWs, a longer precis of the idea?
