St Jakaleel

<< imagine the Spolite black magic brigade would get along with Jakaleel  just fine. Perhaps they operate some kind of student exchange scheme.

IMG I have Magi as sorcerers who study the Word of Idovanus and are responsible for determining which gods are servants of Light/Truth and Darkness/Falsehood, and which are acceptable for worship. Vizirs/Wizards are all "initiates" of Idovanus, Magi are "high initiates". So any powerful magician only becomes an acceptable Carmanian Vizir if the Magi approve of his practices. Currently (1262 in my campaign), the Magi are leaderless as the Hierophant (top Magi) was killed at the Battle of the Four Arrows of Light. Without a leader the Magi have been unable to make a clear statement about the Truth/Falsehood of the Lunar Doctrine and so everyone is at each others throats. From Yanafal Taarnils, to his second cousin the self styled Bull Shah of Worion, to Yanafal's great grandson, the (also self styled) Moon Shah of Kitor (sometimes calls himself the Brass Sultan) etc etc(they're all related in some way; it's a family squabble). What is really needed is some news from Castle Blue (the "city of sovereignty" or "tyranny" or "authority" in my game) but that has disappeared, almost permanently.

as is written in the religious history of Carmania (nicked from Occdental Mythology by J.Cambell)

"The Shah of Shahs, Karmanos, son of Syranthir, summoned men from all lands to examine and study all doctrines, so that all cause for sdispute might be removed. After the Hierophant had been vindicatd by the consistency of his arguments against all the other representatives of the different secrs, doctrines and schools, he issued a declaration to the following effect:"Now that we have seen the True Religion we shall leave no one to his False Religion and we shalll be exceedingly zealous", And so did he do."

"His Majesty, the Shah, following the Hierophant as religious authority, commanded all those scattered teachings to be brought to his court. The Hierophant set about his task, selected one version, exluded others from his canon, and issued this decree: "The interpretation of all the teachings from the Religion of the Worshippers of the Gods is our responsibility; for now there is no lack of certain Knowledge concerning them. That which is False is determined as a Lie and that which is True stands in the Light of Idovanus."

Jakaleel should be classified as a False God in 1262, but would be reclassified when the Lunars (in the person of Aronius Jaranthir I think) persuade the Magi of their superior firepower, er sorry superior moral and magical arguments. I also think that Spolite witches would not be acceptable to the Magi, because they are probably GanEstoro devotees. Unfortunately for the Bull Shah (in 1262) the Magi have not yet "declared" on Lunar religions so his campaign against his second cousin twice removed in the north is not a religious crusade. (but find out next week as this is what is about to happen to my players....)

Back to St. Jakaleel. I personally would not say "Saint" but possibly some other title, (not that I can think of one).
