Gloranthan armies

Some people have commented that the Lunars are an infantry army with little or no archers or cavalry (apart from the CharUn and the Thunder-Delta slingers). This IMO is incorrect. The Lunar army is very varied, has a wide variety of troop types and has done so ever since the Dawn.

In addition to the hoplites, they also have peltasts (who throw javelins around). Traditionally the peltasts came from Suvaria (Darjiin and Doblian), but in modern times they can be found They also have a fair bit of cavalry (both heavy and light) which are traditionally from Rinliddi, Jillaro and the Hungry Plateau. Moreover each of the Tripolis has their own cavalry regiment (cf Horses of the Lunar Empire).

As for the west with its disdain for infantry armies, that does not preclude them from having decent infantrymen. It merely means that the nobility (who write the histories) treat them with contempt and claim all the glory when the battle's won.
