Apology

First off, thanks to everyone who liked the story and told me so. However, I would like to extend my apologies for the cack spelling and grammar that snuck through. My only excuse is being half cut when I checked it.

Another Mailing List

I don't know if they keep an archive, but the C&S mailing list had a long discussion of archery and why people stopped using long bows. They've also done the heavy vs. light cavalry thing to death as well. Those interested might find a trip to www.locs.com useful for the mailing list details as a lot of medieval military things are discussed on it.

Multimissile

Alex mentioned Multimissile in a Gloranthan (albeit RQ rulesy) context: Just imagine a bunch of archers that specialise in Multimissile, say about 10 points worth. One volley would somewhat discomfort any similar sized unit of cavalry. Ouch. More spikes than a hedgehog with in-growing fur.

Cavalry Skirmishers

Unlike the RW, Gloranthan "light" (pick your own definition of what light is here!) cavalry could be effective skirmishers without any missile weapons. They gallop up, let loose a load of Demoralise and Fanaticism spells. They then sit back and watch the enemy try to keep formed up with loads of them not wanting to be there, loads of them charging willy-nilly and the rest of them wondering why more of 'em never bothered learning Dispel Magic. Loads of Disruptions at enemy cavalry (especially Rhinos) could also be a laugh.

Semi-Serious Suggestion Time

Perhaps we shouldn't be comparing combat in Glorantha with pre-1600 RW warfare. There are a few more periods it resembles:

Anyway, enough of this cobblers, cheers me dears,

Aesc
