Good idea, bjm10_at_cornell.edu , but one small flaw. You should place your kackhanders on the right flank, not the left. The right is the traditional weak
end of a shield-wall because the last man has no shield to protect his right side. If your last couple of men are lefties then their shields will protect them from a flanking attack.
