I think there are very definitely religious wars. The problem is interpretation of the divine message, which is up to the Priest, (as in the real world, to some extent). This is more MGF and more likely. Examples from Gloranthan History: Alakoring vs Dragonfriends, Malkioni vs Malkioni, the Outlaw Emporers vs Moonson, Khordavu vs Kills for Life, Carmanians vs Lunars, Arkati vs Arkati, etc etc.
