If you take "Nils" to mean "without" or "sans" then Yanafal becomes Yanafal "No Bull" or "Who is Without Bull" which makes his status as a Humakti who had severed himself from his Tavar/Bull family to take the path of Honour quite explicit.
On his exact ancestry, when I explained that a certain character was the Moon's second cousin, once removed, or whatever it was , they all got so confused that no one really took that much notice.
