Other navigation

Recently there has been some discussion on Eastern Isles navigation but how do others (Dwarves, Elves, Vadeli, Waertagi, Wolf Pirates and the sailors of Fonrit, Malso and the Trading dynasties from the West or Umathela) navigate?

It is possible to fix latitude through sight of the sun, moon and stars and direction using a crude compass (from a magnetic stone or lodestone) but perhaps,

The great tree on an Elf Galegas senses the direction of sacred groves or great tree at its destination.

A Dwarf Floating Castle might have mechanical devices that could precisely measure distance and time travelled (enabling the ships position of longitude to be calculated). Perhaps they have plans for Global Positioning Satellites?

Captains from the West may use a combination of a Rutter (A personal record of facts, courses and charts) and technology such as an astrolabe, cross staff or quadrant.

The Vadeli have some fiendish sorcerous device and/or tortured the information from their victims.
