Errata for Volume Darkness

OK, I know that it is a bit soon to be publishing errata for Volume Darkness, especially since at this time there are only about 75 copies in circulation! Still, I had to type them up for the web page, and figured I should send them to all of you as well, for the few who already have a copy, and for the hopefully many more who will be buying one!

I really need to work on not reading anything I have written, edited, or published once it is in print. My self-image would be much higher, I think. Still, so far I have not noted any major errors in Volume Darkness, just "a few" typos; this issue is much cleaner than Volume Prax, thanks to a new computer with lots more memory. There are a few places where spell names are incorrect ("Induce Uzko" on page 5 of the insert should read "Induce Uzdo"), but those are minor issues, and I won't bore you by delineating all of them.

If I find additional errata I will post them to the Digest. I would be very happy to answer any questions anyone has on any aspect of the book, and I would love letters or email about it; you can also leave questions on the Guestbook on my web page, and I will try to answer them from there. I do intend to place most letters up on the Drastic Web Page, so please indicate in your letter if you would prefer that I not do this with yours.

Enough talk.

pg. 4-6 I should note that Caspar Godsman and Wilmar Darkdrake were originally conceived by Ken Rolston (as far as I know, anyways) for Dorastor: Land of Doom.

pg. 11 The picture of the Throne (drawn by Anglu Farrugia, from Malta) that makes up this page loses A LOT in black and white. The original color picture is up on the Drastic Resolutions Web Page at:

www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Ring/1722/throne.html

pg. 15 The really abominable pun behind the entire description of Laca I can blame on Greg Stafford. :)

pg. 24 It should be obvious that Severin hangs out in the town of "Tink," not "Think."

pg. 32 There is some additional material on the relationship between trolls and ravens available on James Frusetta's Troll Wonderhome web page. Along with lots of other excellent troll-related information. Link to it at:

www.wam.umd.edu/~gerakkag/rq.html

pg. 39 In "What is the role of Vaneekara in troll society and cosmology?", the second sentence of the fourth paragraph should read as follows (change set off in arrow <> brackets):

"In the Godtime, Vaneekara was known for her involvement in battles with
elves and <dwarfs>, and it is possible ..."

pg. 41 The scientific name for Zugorteg's Dung Beetle is <i>scarabaeus gazacustos</i>.

pg. 43 In the descriptions of Giant Dragonflies and Giant Elkhorn Beetles, there is no text missing in the gap about 1/4 of the way down the page. My printer apparently hiccuphed when I was running the final copy, and neither I nor the print shop caught this until I picked the books up.

pg. 43 Shadowdamsels have INT, POW, and APP (to trolls, anyways) of 2d6+6 each.

pg. 44 Giant Maggots have a DEX SR of 4.

pg. 48 Kozoru (Shadow Vampires) are not completely indetectable to Darksense, but are difficult to spot using this sense. A successful Darksense/Search roll is required to sense them even when they are in plain "sight" of a troll. They cannot be sensed at a distance using Darksense/Scan, except perhaps by Uzuz and other sonic specialists. Trolls with exceptionally good eyesight may be able to see them as dark blurs, which could allow a bonus to their Darksense roll at the gamemaster's option.

pg. 49 Nightflyers have a DEX SR of 2.

pg. 52 In the description of Gerak Kag's Shin, the first sentence in the first paragraph should read as follows (change set off in arrow <> brackets):

"When Gerak Kag left his body behind, trolls throughout Prax and <Dagori
Inkarth> came to honor his memory."

pg. 66 On the map of the Yolp Mountains, there are six hills named in the upper left corner. The bottom right one of the hills is "Lump," not
"Thump" (which is above it and too the left).

pg. 89 The Norag special Spirit Magic spell of Cool is _passive_.

pg. 95 Somehow, I completely left out any mention of Zugorteg's holy days when I did the cult write-up. Please insert the following section as two new paragraphs at the end of the CULT ECOLOGY section.

"Little is known to humans or even other trolls about Zugorteg's rituals,
which always begin at Dusk. Three special holy days are celebrated by the cult. On the Freezeday of Fertility Week in Earth Season, worshipers celebrate Zugorteg's birth within the Formless Underworld, the first shadow to recognize that it had substance. On the Clayday of Illusion Week in Dark Season, worshipers celebrate Zugorteg's rescue from Lodril by the troll heroes Gore and Gash. This is the holy day of the cult best known to other trolls, particularly in the Dagori Inkarth area. The first Freezeday of Sacred Time is the greatest celebration of the cult, for it marks Zugorteg's marriage to Argan Argar, thus reuniting the Darkness of the Underworld with the Darkness of the Surface World.

When worshiped in a spirit cult (as is fairly common among trolls), Zugorteg can be worshiped on Freezeday of Fertility Week or Clayday of Illusion Week, in any season except Fire Season (because of her helplessness against Lodril). When worshiped on Freezeday, her benign aspect is normally emphasized, and the spell provided is Hide Wealth. When worshiped on Clayday her malign aspect is emphasized, and the spell provided is usually Summon Uztagor."

Insert to Volume Darkness

pg. v Add Mindspeech to the list of Spirit Magic spells available through the Spellteaching ritual.

pg. vi Add Summon Ancestress to the list of Divine Magic spells available to Mothers. Command Cult Spirit is available, but Create Charm is not.

Well, that's it. As I said, if anyone finds any other errors beyond typoes, please let me know so that I can correct (or at least clarify/justify) them.

Cheers,

Stephen Martin
