Joerg Baumgartner:

>The Mournsea too allowed inshore sailing, even between the Wenelian and
>the Manirian Isles across the bay of Erenplose.

Was there? The Handrans didn't have any ships until Dormal contacted them and the Newcoast cities have sprung up as a result of the Opening. I think it would be more appropiate for the isles to be isolated by the Closing rather than have major shipping there.

>The Ludoch of both seas maintained close contact despite the Closing.

Their ability to do so should really come as no surprise to anyone.

Me>> Criticisms aplenty can be raised about the quality and reused nature

>The picture clearly depicts one of the Hero Wars battles in Dragon Pass
>- - it is easy to make out the shaven-head Lunars, snake-headed dragonewt
>priests etc in late 70s pictography for Glorantha.

And this makes the text wrong in what respect? Harrek as stated in the text did sack the Rightarm Isles in 1616 with a pirate fleet. This is true regardless of whether the pic was a Van Gogh Masterpiece or a Dave Dobyski drawing. The text was written for the book and is true evn if the picture was originally of something else. Since the Wolf Pirates _also_ sacked the same Isles in the same year, it follows that Harrek was part of the Wolf Pirate Fleet.

>And (having lived in similar environment): what has stung Harrek that he
>returns from lush Maniria to behind-nothing Ygg's Isles without
>plundering heavily along the Neliomi Sea (e.g. Loskalm, rife for
>plucking, or Brithini Arolanit) in 1617?

He wanted more men for his pirate raids? He only commanded one ship in 1616 AFAIK.

>One would at least expect a trail of burning ports during the voyage
>north.

If he was sailing in a pirate fleet, this may be true. But he could easily be sailing in a single boat in an attempt to reach Ygg's Isles and become their champion.

Having Harrek join the Wolf Pirates in 1614-16 makes the statement that he did so while in a ship travelling from Loskalm to Seshnela more explicable. Harrek is sailing from Loskalm because he has just sacked Sog City and he wants to lie low for a while. The Wolf Pirates attacked him there because there is a colony of them on the Isle of Ginorth.

If Harrek joined the wolf pirates _after_ he had been crowned champion of Ygg, as Joerg seems to think is the case, then we would have suicidal wolf pirates in one ship attacking a Yggite Fleet. Harrek kills most of them, abandons his fleet and sails to Three Steps. Makes sense? Not to me, I'm afraid.

If Joerg has an alternative history of what Harrek did, after he sacked Sog City to being the feared leader of the Wolf Pirates on threesteps as of 1621, I'ld be interested to hear it.
