To risk excoriation for telling a non-Gloranthan gaming anecdote, this reminds me of something a local GM of some notoriety once did.
GM: OK, the tunnel ends and branches.
Player: How many tunnels are there?
GM (desperately stalling for time while he looks for/writes map): You don't
know. You're not numerate.
(outraged players erupt)
(some time later)
Player: OK, are there the same number of tunnels as I have arms?
GM: Yes.
Almost as notorious as the time they met 'a big bird', and approached it expecting it to be some sort of large eagle at most, and it bit them in half, being a 3 story high Shantak.
