I like the idea that the Arkat cult has secret higher degrees of initiation, and so on, like the Masons. Eventually, the Arkat cult does initiate (probably, like the Masons, through ceremonies that are designed to make you question your place in the world). The existence of Arkati 'illumination' is a higher secret of the cult, that it is essentially the same as Nysalorian 'illumination' is an even higher secret. The Arkati keep this teaching secret because, like many an occult group before them, they believe that their teachings are powerful and dangerous (quite correctly), but spiritually valuable (also correctly). Illumination is wrong is the official truth espoused to the outer cult and world at large. Illumination is a horrible perversion of certain truths is espoused to the inner cult. And the true initiates, the ones who are already illuminated, are taught that Illumination is fine, but you can't give it to just anyone, only those who understand the true importance of its secret.
