Peter Metcalfe was dismissive of the claims of the masons to antiquity.

Not -historically- credible, but a lot of people in the present day believe in them, and some let it influence how they act.

I happened to visit the area in the Pyrenees where the Cathars had their stronghold shortly after =

'The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail' came out. I found that the French bookshops were full of books on that and similar subjects, and there was a French politician who was attempting to get political advantage from a claim to be the current heir of the Merovingians.

In Glorantha, he'd have been attempting a heroquest to prove that he was indeed the heir. Could he have succeeded?
