Surely to living, healthy plants fungi are nothing but a menace. A large number of plant diseases are fungal compared to a few beneficial plant-fungi relationships.
Do fungi play an important role in Gloranthan ecosystems
returning nutrients etc?

Things that feed on your dead are normally held in disgust,
but that may be putting a too human view on it.
