Exactly. That's part of the fun with religious debate, people keep arguing about meaningless trivia while major issues remain unsolved. Not unlike a certain mailing list, really... ;-)

Interesting. Are you proposing an impersonal access to saintly blessings the same way the congregation gets access to the blessings of the Invisible God? Did the village have to establish a congregational patronage to be able to invoke the saint? (Putting up a properly vested shrine, for instance?)
