I've been only skimming the discussion (partly because the first Digest arrived out of order).

I think the man who symbolizes Lankst, by definition, is its King, and that would be Kocholang. (Garundyer could be the most ADMIRED man in Lankst.)

I should also say that I hate Garundyer, but that's because I see him as Cuchulainn, who I also dislike. Or Galahad (whom I liked as a youth, but grew to dislike because of his lack of facets). Or to a slightly lesser degree, Rustum (the Persian hero). If my analogies are correct, he's a perfect hero, with no human flaws (Cuchulainn had only heroic flaws, like his warp-spasm). He's so mighty that there are no real challenges for him.

Jealousy is an obvious motive. Kocholang is the king, but everyone looks up to a hero, from no particular family. Some people even say this hero IS Lankst, when Kocholang has been ritually invested with that office! And this Iron Ring business -- forming rings is supposed to be the business of a leader -- clearly he's threatening to take over the kingdom. What a jerk. If only he wasn't so darned useful (most of the time).
