I suspect the Generic Official Vormain Answer will end up applying here: No-One Knows... So looking on the bright side, it's unlikely to be Officially Wrong, either! Peter's rationalisation seems especially apt: likely a remant of Vayobi's (or at least, Vayobi-ist) Eastern Adventurism, sounds like to me.
