Herding cats

A really belated response to a thread that has gone to sleep again is probably stupid, but here it goes...

A trained alynx could be rather useful to a shepherd. It wouldn't work as a sheepdog, that's just stupid, as has been pointed out eloquently enough. But, an alynx has sharper senses than a human, especially night vision. Thus, it can detect predators and other dangers and alert the shepherd, while still acting like a cat, skulking about, doing its own hunting etc. The difference between a trained and an untrained alynx would then be that the trained one won't stray very far from the shepherd and his sheep.
