Joerg Baumgartner:

Me>> They do combine the Orlanthi pantheon with Malkioni mysteries

>It is known that the Dawn Age Seshnegi (as a culture) did use both

Different individuals. Look at the early King's list for conflicts between the two traditions.

>> Greg's
>> latest thinking or perhaps his intent all along but hitherto
>> mistated seems to be that the Stygians, Aeolians etc. are tantric
>> worshippers of the Invisible God, i.e. they use deliberately
>> wrong methods to understand God.

>Deliberately wrong in whose POV?

It is deliberately wrong according to the Malkioni PoV just as Tantra deliberately inverts traditional indian values (sex, eating meat etc) to gain spiritual advancement.

Most Stygians would be aware that their ways are different from more Orthodox Malkioni and they know that in the past such things were not done. But they can rationalize it on the grounds that it is what their sect founder, Arkat, did (start off from a pure malkioni perspective and abandon it to worship gods so that he could overcome Gbaji and attain unity with god once again). They are no different than Rokari or Hrestoli in thinking they have the revealed truth superior to what has gone before. A few Stygians would deny that their practices are different from those of conventional Malkioni and they would appear to be more orthodox as a result.

>And would a benighted sect like the
>Aeolians in an even more benighted pagan environment like Heortland be
>aware of their method being contrary to orthodox doctrine, rather than
>regionally different?

There are the God Forgotten to tell them their perfidy and the truth of their words would be given extra force since the Opening with renewed contacts with the West. The Aeolians will certainly be bewildered by this.
