After the Hero Wars, the Orlanthi lost all knowledge of how to read or write for an unknown reason, although it's mentioned as a disease at one point. >>
They did know the reason and were (or, if your game is set in 1620, they are going to try to.. ) going to write it down but couldn't. There are several other examples of memory and knowledge removal in Gloranthan history but, for obvious reasons, I cannot tell you about any of them.
