        o It had some mystical purpose;

	o The fact that it existed, and had people in them doing
	   unspeakably horrible things to themselves and each other
	   almost certainly means it would have been completely
	   misunderstood by many (hence the ITC epithet), and was by
	   little further stretch of the imaginatition _to some unspecified
	   degree_ (emphasis due to raging debate on this topic)
	   'misused', or 'adapted' to get rid of 'inconvenient',
	   'troublesome', or 'especially hated' people, all of
	   which Sheng would qualify for in spades. (Gland slam,
	   doubled and redoubled, both sides vulnerable, gland slam,
	   in fact.)

Cheers,
Alex.
