Peter has reminded me that Doskalos did indedd have a previous life before he 'became' the Red Emperor. So there is a precedent for the Red Emperor having previous form. Doskalos was not the Red Emperor, but became the Red Emperor. (perhaps rahter he became a small part of the entity known as the Red Emperor)
