How about not-quite-ideas, just a bit of pointless speculation ? In the thumb write ups I remember they all involve finding a pre-existing thumb and attaching it. But perhaps in some cases at lesast the "thumb" grows on the moros paw, maybe as an enlarged and adapted wristbone extension. I'm thinking like the famous "non-thumb" thumb of RW pandas which is something along these lines. - Though obviouslt isn't heroquested for by individual pandas. OTOH perhaps that _would_ explain their lack of interest in sex, their spirits being too pre-occupied on the hero plane to get involved in such nastiness.
