Less than Singular?

<< In some senses I'm ambivalent about the whole issue. In one sense I find  myself agreeing with some comments that an Emperor who is a human who becomes

The thing that niggles me about the LoM version of RE is that it *seems* too similar to a Roman Emperor being put in power by the army, whereas there needs to be a significant Magical/Mystical component to the succession (which I believe there actually was in LoM). However, I do like the idea of a political scrum over who becomes the Real Red Emperor, and I do not like the idea of an immediate and obvious return/ressurection of the RE. Martin mentions the Christian debate on the nature of Jesus and I see no reason that Lunar theologians cannot justify a singular Red Emperor amongst several masks, proxies and usurpers when Christian theologians can have father, son, holy spirit and still have only one singular God.

I was trying to think of any other parallels that could be used and the most immediate was Dr. Who, who gets a new mask every time a new actor is recruited - everytime his old form gets whacked. Unfortunately I think Dr Who was a load of old rubbish (flamebait!).
