In my conversation with Greg, the Red Emperor came up. I'm not
intimately familiar with all the sources so I didn't really get into
it. Although he stoutly defended the "one entity" concept, all of his
practical examples seemed pretty compatible with the idea of
individuals becoming Red Emperor. Greg even suggested a mechanism for
this which is completely different from the Pharaoh: if you want to
become a proxy, you would become a devotee of the Red Emperor, and
heroform* him. Presumably the same thing would happen if the Red
Emperor had "died" and needed to be "replaced," only a bit more
permanent (i.e. you might be able to _stop_ heroforming).
A thought that just occurred to me: this might be somewhat
involuntary. After all, the best way to rule the Empire is to behave
more or less like the last Red Emperor...
- The classic example of heroforming is in "Morden Defends the Camp,"
where Morden becomes Breken (this story is on the King of Dragon Pass
CD and may still be on the www.glorantha.com web site as a myth of
the month).
