Previous life of the Red Hoohaw

The Red Emperor is singular and "candidates" have no previous existence. The Red Emperor is composite and "candidates" DO have a previous existence.

What's to stop both from being simultaneously true? Isn't part of the whole Lunar thing to break out of the rules that cause so many problems?
