Hi, I'm Fred from France, an old time Rqer and fan of Glorantha (since 82) a
strong supporter of the fan press and graphic designer/journalist for trade.
I received my HW deluxe box last week and I'm still feelingannoyed with some "big"
details :
- -first of all : the layout and overall quality of the contents. I know for sure
that desktop publishing can be done in-house and doesn't cost anything past the
time spent by the person doing it. I think that young players and Glorantha fans
either would have deserved a better treatment on that. I know that Issaries is a
small office but perhaps we, the fans, could help with our skills, but I don't
know how. If Roderick or Eric could tell... BTW, I will wait for Multisim's
version to have a beautiful map of Glorantha !
- -The rules makes me feel uneasy. I like the global system, no problem, it's a
jewel, and I appreciate its "charts free" concept and clear mechanics. But I don't
find the R. D. Laws style that made me laugh and get me anxious to play in "Feng
Shui". Being also an amateur of skills and spells descriptions, I was really
disappointed when I found nothing but "tell it yourself" kind of dogma. Certain
skills referring to specific cultures need guidance and I don't think new players
(except perhaps old vets) will be at ease with this.
- - I think that the background given in the rules is too vague to make newcomers
appreciate the "Glorantha feel" we all love. Even with Glorantha along this, they
will desperatly need the player guides, so Issaries, bring them out before 2010,
please ;-)
With all these recriminations, I must confess that this long wait ending with such
a frustration make me doubt of HW probability of selling well. But I will strongly
support it, and make my own house rules to fix all that (I wonder if David Hall
has a made a useable draft of his Glorantha RPG, could be spread among fans by the
net).
and another word : I don't understand why Greg and the Tales' tribe don't get
along these days ? Could we get back to the golden age of RQ renaissance ?
I'm in for PraxPak, and all those saying that all the info was already released
should refer to the "ostrich tribe" article written by Mike Dawson in Heroes to
think about what could be done to give respect to the beast riders. long live Prax
!
