The recent talk on the Digest about Ridley Scott's new epic ('Carry On Commodus'), got me thinking about what sort of gladiators might be seen in Glamour, or elsewhere in the Lunar Empire.
I'm sure many contests would simply be straight bouts between fighters captured on campaign and shipped back to the Heartlands. Its easy to imagine the crowd cheering on 10 Ostrich Riders as they get stuck into (or, come to think of it, get chased around in terror by) a couple of Rhino Riders or a young giant.
Also, the debauched nature of the Emperor's latest Mask would surely lead to some incredible spectacles - perhaps members of the Blue Navy battling various mermen in a specially flooded ampitheatre or lumbering chaos horrors 'hunting' hundreds of overweight slaves.
What I'm more interested in though, are specialist gladiators, probably professionals of Lunar origin, who would be carefully matched in choice of weapons and fighting style (these latter influenced perhaps by myth). Is there any mention anywhere of what these would be like?
Rubbing my hands (with sand) in anticipation...
