I don't see Bagog as animistic, althought it is tempting (ancestress worshipping). Why Hmm. Let's see.
Is the intelligence devouring an inborn ability or does it come from worshipping Bagog? I think that it does. That's why the cult is the cornerstone of scorpionman society.That means that you have to have Eat Enemies -spirits and Stomach Acid that drains intellect -spirits. :) Somehow I doubt that.
IHMO what Bagog really is is a God that has Affinities related to devouring different things... She devoured agreat scorpion spirit, that's where she got her hsunchen-like abilities, I bet she devoured a bunch of other spirits and/or other folks too. So I think thtat she has an devour spirits affinity(only for shamans,integrating spirits anyone), bestiality affinity(with Pincers and Enchance Poison etc.) and an Devour knowledge affinity(Devour knowledge, Devour spell, Devour Affinity) and a secret of twisted fertility(for queens).
It would be quite complicated to duplicate all these with spirits... and besides, I don't see the scorpionmen wielding fetishes and dancing in a circle (with their legs going clipety-clak, step-dancing) while practicing ecstatic worship :D
