I don't think so. Since there are damn few Elmali within Sartar these days, his mythological impact has lessened. OTOH because there are so many interfering Pelorians around, Yelm's mythological importance has increased to such an extent that Elmal has been dethroned from his solar throne.

So an Orlanthi when he enters the Heroplane _now_ would see the Sun as the Emperor, and if he wants to find Elmal, he looks for a golden warrior.

They've been around since the Sunstop and this identification would be canon among the urban Gray Sages IMO but debatable among everybody else.
