(Snip) Etc.

About four months ago, I was phone banking for Progressive Voters in Action, a Houston area gay friendly voter project. Phone banking involves making cold calls with a script, usually asking if the voter supports laws against workplace discrimination against GLBTs (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered people), or supports ending the Texas sodomy statute, etc.

Toward the end of my evening, one individual, after hearing my spiel, told me that he wished "all you diseased faggots" would be "shipped back to whatever island we came from" and "die an agonizing death".

This isn't as bad, of course, as what my father said to me when I came out to him.

So perhaps you will understand that I get a little uncomfortable when I see any mention of Nandan used as an excuse for a homophobic jokes.

Now I certainly hope Mr. Boatwright's purpose in his post was to convey the absurdity of asserting that Nandani are Orlanthi 'gays'.

But somehow, I doubt it.
