Hrothgar of the Balmyr on what it is to be Humakti:

"To every man, woman and child is given his wyrd, and Humakt is the wyrd of all. He is the end, and the god of endings and the tool of endings is death. All are mortal and the end of all that are mortal is death. Most mortals fear death, and hold tightly to the warm embrace of life. Their fear cripples them, it makes them unable to act, or achieve an honourable ending. We are the Humakti, we understand that death is not to be feared, it is the ending. What matters is not life, but the ending, A glorious death in battle is what a man hopes for, not a life filled with fear. Fear makes us slaves, death makes us free. All men must end, it is the nature of our ending that seperates the king from the stickpicker. It is at our end that we our judged. We call no man happy until he is dead.

Orlanth begins, Humakt ends. When Orlanth used Death on Yelm it was not an ending but a beginning. It lead to the Darkness, and Orlanth was forced to put right his wrong. But in putting right his wrong Orlanth again made a new beginning and brought Yelm back from Death. So mistake compounded mistake. This is what happens when we lie, we cheat and we steal. This is not our way.

The feud leads to kinstrife, and kinstrife leads to chaos, it is a beginning. Seek only the ending, the clear path that resolves and does not start. If you swear an oath on your ring-sword, do not break it for lies only begin. If a man wrongs you, do not start a feud, challenge him to a duel, so that all may know that the matter has been resolved; if enemies wrongs our clan or are tribe, confront your enemies at the place of war, and let mail coat and bright sword, possession of the field of slaughter decide an ending. Humakt brought an ending to his kinship - and so do we. Kinship is a beginning, it begins kinstrife. This is not our way.

You will see the fear in their eyes when the look at you, it is a fear of their own ending. Do not be afraid. This is not our way. Others play the fool and mock, it is but a sign of the fear, and thus they try to hide their fear. This is not our way.

War is the ending that a man may make which may place him with Humakt's einherjar, unafraid of death, called to our ending, here we become death. This is our way.

Your humakti brothers are tied to you in blood, ale and on the oath of the ring-sword. Sworn to die with you in battle, to fulfill the promises made in the ale-right. Do not dishonour the rights of blood and ale. These are your new brothers who you will make an ending with. Treat them with honour so that no beginnings may sperate or divide you. This is our way.

You only have on end. Do not make it a new beginning. Honour your own ending, that we may honour you afterwards. This is our way.

Beware the slow, corrupted end of Malia. For is is not singular. It does no end for from the death will spring forth new life, a cylce of beginning and ending. Bring it to an end.

Beware undeath. It is the fear. They are slaves, and cannot free themselves. Bring the fear to an end.

If others seek to make a beginning from your death. End them, and end it.

This is our wyrd, embrace it."
