Part of Greg's explanation is that heros don't get hurt as often in Hero Wars as they do under RQ. Action Points aren't the equivelent of Hit Points, they don't represent physical damage but rather the ability to carry on the contest. So the character knocked down to 3 AP isn't badly wounded, more likely he's dropped his sword and his foe has his foot on it. Of course when such a contest is over the loser may well be badly hurt when they have to either get a healer or rest up. Basically the need for in combat healing has disappeared so the mechanics from RQ have been dropped. Most narraters would, I think, rule that a character would be able to stop bleeding to death but, depending on the severity of the injury, be at a disadvantage in combat until recovered.
