Seasonal Silliness

Heys folks

ALYNX AND THE LAW I found this amongst the early Welsh laws of Hywel the Good. The humour of it as well as the subject struck me as very Orlanthi.

"... Whoever kills the cat that guards the king's barn, or steals it, its head is to be set down on a clean level floor, and its tail is to be held up, and then wheaten grains are to be poured around it until they cover the tip of its tail. Any other cat is worth four legal pence.... In law, essential qualifications of a cat are that it should be perfect of ear and eye and tail and teeth and claws, not singed by the fire; and that it should kill mice and not eat its kittens, and should not be caterwauling every full moon."

STARBROW, STARBROW, STARBROW, OI! OI! OI! At the risk of excoriation, and leaving Rule 1 in tatters, I have to fourth Daniel on this.

Using O/i as a acronym for the People of the Thunder would make us the laughing stock of Kerofinela. What the L/s say, or the G/s, or the Pr/s or the Uz or those stoopid, stoopid M/i? The FP/s would smirk and the T/s raid us in mockery. Its enough to make a LM shave her beard.

MORE VINGAN GLITTERY Skip this if you're on the Hero Wars list - we been here before. I've bundled up a zip file of Vingan artwork, including a couple of 600*800 desktop wallpapers, some character sketches and a special 'Laura Croft as Vinga' tribute just for Roderick. They are all based on renderings of the Vinga model I've been building in Poser/Bryce/Photoshop. Six files, 477K in all, including the 'Thunder Rebels' wallpaper previously announced. You can download the archive either from the Hero Wars files area (if you're a member, log on to egroups and go to Hero Wars/Files) or direct from me at

(that's 'Vinga_art.zip' - underscore)

And on a slightly more serious note...

VAGARIES OF HEROQUESTING Michael Hitchens asked about the latest dogma on heroquesting.

First up, it's great to see Michael posting again. Welcome back Michael! :)

Andrew Larsen and I kicked this topic around a bit back in July. I posted a long essay/rant playing 20 questions with heroquesting, listing a dozen or so types of quests and wondered what their status was under HW. That post ('Insulting the Wrong Raccoon, 23 July ) is available at the archives:

http://chmeee.pronetsolutions.com/gd/glorantha%2Dv7/msg06954.html

It laid out lots of questions and summarised lots of beliefs, but it, and the ensuing discussion, didn't come up with many answers.

Greg's latest thinking seems to be leading into group reality/subjectivist directions, more similar to an (internal) shamanic journey than a 'step through the magic door and take the second godpath to the left'. Thus, those who don't share the gnosis see the questers remain on the mundane plain asleep, and only worshippers see the magic light show of a ceremony.

I'm sure that this is not the whole story.

Cheers

John

His eyes like furnace doors ajar.

When he had got its weight
and let his industry console his grief a bit,  'I'll fight'
he said. Simple as that. 'I'll fight.'

And so Troy fell.
