Jane Williams:

<< Would someone with some medical knowledge like to comment on the effect of a man taking a female contraceptive pill?>>

The standard type of pill consists of oestrogen and progesterone. This would tend to reduce a man's production of male hormones, thus making him rather more feminine - at the very least a low sperm count, if not something more obviously visible, depending on how much he is taking. Something very similar to the contraceptive pill is used to help treat prostate cancer for just that reason (ideally you want to castrate the patient, but some men apparently object to that). On the down side, it will increase a man's chance of suffering a heart attack.

There's no reason I can see to assume that Gloranthan gender determination works like this, but it seems fair to say that a man can't join Vinga short of physically changing his sex through some suitably funky magic.

Forward the glorious Red Army!
