Mythically, because bows are yucky. You need all this weird, nasty elf- and sun-magic to use them properly, and they're not really proper uz weapons. Now, a big-ass rock, *that's* an uz weapon. Especially when you cast Crush 4 (er, I mean, use the Crush magic feat) on it first. Hur hur hur. And the nasty rock-flinging patron, Vaneekara, never got her "cult" written up in RuneQuest, darn it. Let's hope for boulder-slinging uzko in Hero Wars. Wooo-hooo! "Well, the Sartarite's shield deflects the boulder about a millimeter as it crushes in his rib cage and causes his ribs to spurt out in different directions."
In practical (non-magical) terms, the uz probably don't have much of a chance to make them -- don't have the right skills. They could learn how to make them, maybe, but slings work pretty well for trollkin skirmishers anyway. Nowadays, bows wouldn't be that helpful for uz in general; the enlo are slinging the rocks, the uzko are for melee (with maybe some rocks tossed in on the charge). It's easier to sneak around with slings, too, and uz are good enough (in their domain) that they can sneak within range and zap someone before they can do much about it, on a good day.
