The Grazers have traditionally lived off their herds (primarily milk and blood, but also slaughtering inferior animals), and hunting and gathering. There's nothing impossible about a hunter-gatherer lifestyle! The Comanche for example did this (admittedly they had huge buffalo herds to hunt). In the early years, the Grazers had all of Dragon Pass to wander, and fairly small numbers, so there weren't any food problems.
