Two different events. Orlanth _deposed_ Vadrus and placed Valind in charge (TR p146). He is explicitly stated to have done this without killing anybody. Vadrus later perishes at the battle of Stormfall after trying to take Wakboth's power by defeating him (TR p147). Because he was slain by chaos, no one can worship him today.
