It is strange though that Orlanth the Lion crops up in direct neighborhood to the remnants of the Pendali-returned-Basmoli peoples of Basim and (I suppose) Bastis.

I don't see much of a problem here, either. We know that Orlanth (or Vingkot) was a foe of Basmol, but then Orlanth the Dragon was a foe of Orlanth Dragonslayer.

I don't think that any lion is all lions, but any "hate lions" should work against any lion.
