Topi Pitkanen:

<< Is The Great Compromise solely a Theist truth? Is three fourths of the world actually unbound by the compromise? >>

The Compromise isn't a universal myth among theists, let alone all Gloranthan cultures. However, its basic tenets do hold - its just that different cultures have different explanations as to why.

For instance, the very concept of a Compromise makes no sense to the Malkioni. Who exactly is God going to compromise with? And why should He bother, when He's omnipotent? Yet, 'gods' still don't appear and directly interfere in the world in the West any more than they do in Dragon Pass. This is because of the way that they have set themselves up , and because they aren't actually what they claim to be (remember, Orlanth isn't really a god - he just pretends to be one so that he can gain power from the sacrifices the pagan dupes make to him). Sure, the false gods are limited in power, but that's not because they made a compromise with each other - its because they are false!

God Himself isn't bound by the Compromise, or anything remotely like it. He could break any tenet of the so-called Compromise if He wanted to, being omnipotent. But God knows that it is best if He remain invisible, so that people must have faith in Him and the righteous can be separated from the unjust.

As for Time, well, the Heortlings may think that this is some new thing that started with the Dawn, but we Malkioni know it wasn't really like that. Just because it was difficult to measure time before the Dawn doesn't mean it didn't exist - all this 'timeless simultaneity' guff is, after all, pretty illogical when you think about it. And the world was logical - entirely, beautifully, perfectly logical - back in the Golden Age before pillocks like Orlanth began messing it all up.

Forward the Golden Banner of Flame!
